CNN —A megastructure found in the Baltic Sea may represent one of the oldest known hunting structures used in the Stone Age — and could change what’s known about how hunter-gatherers lived around 11,000 years ago. The stones, which connected several large boulders, were almost perfectly aligned, making it seem unlikely that nature had shaped the structure. The team determined that the wall was likely built by Stone Age communities to hunt reindeer more than 10,000 years ago. Hunting sites around the worldThe discovery marks the first Stone Age hunting structure in the Baltic Sea region. The Lake Huron wall’s construction and location, which includes a lakeshore to one side, is most similar to the Baltic Sea wall’s, the study authors said.

A stretch of unusually warm weather has forced federal officials to suspend researchers' annual wolf-moose count in Isle Royale National Park for the first time in more than six decades. Isle Royale is a 134,000-acre (54,200-hectare) island situated in far western Lake Superior between Grand Marais, Minnesota, and Thunder Bay, Canada. The park is a wildlife biologist's dream - it offers a rare opportunity to observe wolves and moose acting naturally without human influence. Researchers have conducted an annual survey of the park's wolf and moose population since 1958. She said warm temperatures have left the ice around the island unsafe for the scientists' ski-planes to land.

TEGUCIGALPA (Reuters) - Several hundred migrants have gathered at a bus terminal in northern Honduras in preparation to head towards the United States, local television reported on Friday, seeking to flee poverty and a lack of jobs in the Central American nation. Hoy Mismo news channel estimated that about 300 people had gathered at the Gran Terminal bus station in the northern city of San Pedro Sula, largely young people and families holding children. The caravan, expected to leave on Saturday, would mark the first such group of Honduran migrants traveling north during the administration of leftist President Xiomara Castro, who took office at the start of 2022. The government of Honduras estimates that about 64% of the country's 10 million inhabitants live in poverty. The Honduras migration and security ministries did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Racial and class segregation have also long shaped and limited access to public places. "The fundamental rule of public space is that what attracts people most is other people." So it's counterproductive to stop responsible drinkers from enjoying themselves in parks, at street fairs, and in other public places. There are an average of eight public toilets for every 100,000 people in the US, but access to facilities varies widely. By contrast, countries like the UK and Switzerland have many more public toilets per capita.

GLASGOW, Aug 8 (Reuters) - Belgium's Lotte Kopecky underlined her status as one of the best all-round cyclists of her generation when she claimed a second track title at the UCI World Championships with victory in the points race on Tuesday. Earlier, Dutch dominance of the men's sprint events continued as the 30-year-old Jeffrey Hoogland claimed a third successive 1km time trial world title. Kopecky also won the elimination race earlier in the championships and will be one of the favourites for the women's road race which concludes the championships on Sunday. Hoogland also won the men's sprint alongside Lavreysen and both of them will be going for a third gold in the keirin which reaches its conclusion on Wednesday. Lavreysen retained his men's sprint world title on Monday.

On Monday, at the age of 47, he won his third para track cycling world title, obliterating the rest of the field in the C1 scratch race, averaging 44kph over 60 circuits of the Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Ten, who hails from Valencia, is writing a second chapter to a remarkable tale of sporting endeavour in the face of adversity. Before taking up cycling, he was already a three-time Paralympic gold medallist in swimming having made his debut at Atlanta in 1996 and owns three world titles in para swimming. GLASGOW, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Dutchman Harrie Lavreysen maintained his stranglehold on track cycling's sprint discipline as he made it five world titles in succession in the individual event on Monday. Having powered the Dutch to team sprint gold earlier in the meet and, with the keirin to come on Tuesday, he could leave Glasgow having matched the record 14 world titles of French sprint king Arnaud Tournant. Host nation Britain also enjoyed another impressive day at the Chris Hoy Velodrome to top the medals table. He has won five sprint titles in a row, five of the last six in team sprint and three of the last three in keirin. "My legs are still screaming," Barker said after adding the madison to the team pursuit gold she won last week.

GLASGOW, Aug 5 (Reuters) - Denmark reclaimed their world title in men's team pursuit as they defeated Olympic champions Italy in the final at the UCI World Championships in Glasgow on Saturday. In a repeat of the gold-medal battle at the Tokyo Games in 2021 which Italy won in a world record time, Denmark exacted revenge as they reeled in the Azzuri to win comfortably. Denmark also won the title in 2020 and were favourites going into the Olympics. In the women's team pursuit final later, Britain -- led by local favourite Katie Archibald -- take on New Zealand, seeking to win the title for the first time since 2014. Austria's Valentina Holl won the women's title.

Against the odds, Dygert back in old routine

But nearly three years after suffering an horrific career-threatening leg injury at the world road championships time trial in Italy, the 26-year-old proved on Thursday she is back. Dygert, the golden girl of American cycling, reduced the individual time trial field to also-rans on the opening day of the UCI World Championships in Glasgow. Dygert, whose marriage to cyclist Logan Owen ended in divorce in 2020, has had three surgeries on her leg. Dygert has further opportunities to grow her medal collection in Glasgow, in the track team pursuit and then in the women's road time race and time trial. Next up for me is the team pursuit where the girls and I are focused on bringing home another medal for the U.S.

Aug 1 (Reuters) - The first edition of the combined UCI Cycling World Championships begins in Glasgow on Thursday with 11 days of high-octane action across virtually every discipline. Archibald, whose first ventures in track cycling were at the Glasgow velodrome, will be part of a British track team looking to flex their muscles ahead of the Paris Olympics. Britain were only fifth in the medals table at last year's track world championships in Paris with three golds -- the men's team pursuit, men's omnium and women's points race. Track world championships ahead of an Olympic Games can be cagey meetings, with the big nations sometimes reluctant to play their hands -- although the British team will be airing their cutting-edge Hope-Lotus track bike. Other events at the world championships include indoor cycling and a full para road and track programme.

9 p.m. Dance in a dive barMusic has long been an integral part of the Vineyard (the island was a folk-music destination in the 1960s, drawing the likes of James Taylor and Carly Simon ); these days, there is live music every night of the week during the summer. The Ritz , a year-round dive bar with live music (entry $5), will have you dancing to local bands like Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish and Dukes of Circuit Avenue. Up the block, you can watch the summer crowds from the porch bar at Red Cat Kitchen , where punches (from $17) and nonalcoholic cocktails (about $11) go down easy. For a respite from the noise, you can get ice cream at Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium : Adventurous eaters may reach for the lobster flavor (if you really think you’ll like the taste of frozen crustacean, go crazy), but classics like peach and black forest are the real winners.

Global company names often get Anglicized or Americanized to the point where they're unrecognizable, but brands could see some benefits if their names are pronounced correctly. Allianz: al-ee-anz"Allianz " is, perhaps unsurprisingly, the German word for "alliance." It isn't pronounced like the ancient Greek herald of the gods, Hermes, unlike the U.K. delivery company of similar spelling. Moët & Chandon: mow-et ey shon-donIn contrast to typical French pronunciation, there is a hard "T" sound at the end of "Moët." Heuer is the last name of the company's founder, Edouard Heuer.
The comedian decided to see how long he could get by on just $100 in New York City. The 27-year-old worked as a truck driver until late last year, when he moved to New York City to pursue stand-up comedy. Even before beginning his $100 challenge, Hoy avoided New York City's high rents by living in a van he parks for free in Queens. Not counting his vehicle insurance, here's how Hoy got by day-to-day for a month on just $100. "If you drink coffee every day, think about how much money that's saving you," he said.
The purpose is to be transparent about where he spends money and where he is able to save money. It’s my video,’” Hoy said. Because of the experiment, he said, he has also given up drinking alcohol, which has helped him save money. Beyond learning how to stretch his money, Hoy said, the response to his experiment has been exciting. Already, he has sold four shirts at $18 apiece, which he said means he could soon tackle his next $100 experiment.
